There are 5,000 homeless children living on the streets of Bucharest, Romania. Established in 1997, Saint Macrina is a nonprofit organization that aspires to aid these abandoned children by offering social services for homeless children and young people.
Saint Macrina has teamed up with The Florescu Foundation to empower and uplift these disadvantaged youths.
Father Gabriel Executive Director of Saint Macrina offers insight on his collaboration with The Florescu Foundation, “Thanks to the cooperation of Mr. Nick Florescu and the Florescu Family, working with Florescu Foundation since its very beginning was just natural; we have same ideals and our cooperation enriches us.”
Father Gabriel began working with Saint Macrina in December of 2000. Moved by the number of children sheltered, supported, and empowered by Saint Macrina, Father Gabriel joined the organization and adopted their determination to aid children at risk. As Executive Director of Saint Macrina, Father Gabriel is responsible for providing all necessary resources for the implemented programs. Serving as a Saint Macrina representative, he aspires to be the advocate and voice that thousands vulnerable children lack. By expanding the Saint Macrina’s volunteer community and donor platform, Father Gabriel hopes to raise awareness of the organization’s efforts to offer children a fulfilling life.
After fourteen years, Father Gabriel continues to be a beacon of hope to the children in the Saint Macrina programs. He passionately states that, “Working with children and young people at Sfanta Macrina is a continuous source of inspiration; each of them has a rich history, hard life experience and an amazing way of dealing with it. Those made them grow much sooner than other children of their age; just talking with them you find inspiration in making their life better.”
Equipped with 22 dedicated staff members, Santa Macrina currently provides social programs for 130 children. Santa Macrina hopes to expand by constructing an additional shelter that will function as a home for the impoverished children of its program. The new building will improve the quality of Santa Macrina’s services and enhance the daily lives of the children it shelters. The structure is designed to maximally utilize space. A third floor housing facility will provide additional shelter and allow the organization to expand their reach to 24 children in need. Classrooms and educational areas, as well as a kitchen and a dining room, will be located on the second floor. These will me multipurpose areas that will also serve as leisure activities rooms.
Santa Macrina needs to raise $95,000 in order purchase the property and complete construction. An additional $45,000 is necessary to fund operational expenses. Donations sent to The Florescu Foundation will directly benefit Santa Macrina. As Father Gabriel states, “Supporting Santa Macrina could be a good opportunity for everyone to change a child’s life for good. Sometimes, a small gesture can mean so much for a child struggling with hard moments in life. This is why we keep saying to everyone that they should not be embarrassed if they can’t do much; small deeds put together can help us run properly our activities.”
Donate to The Florescu Foundation and give a disadvantaged Romanian child hope for the future.
